About Me
- Name: Annette Stock
- Location: Rotorua, New Zealand
I am an innovative speech language therapist and teacher who works in the field of language and literacy. Many children experience difficulties acquiring oral language which can have a direct effect on their abilities to learn to read.My challenge is to assist this process, working alongside parents and teachers.I also provide speech language therapy for students experiencing difficulties in the areas of speech(articulation) language, stuttering and voice disorders or delays.I love finding innovative ways to assist students so that programmes I develop reflect their interests and can be utilized in their everyday life. This keeps them motivated. My latest innovation is to work with rap with students who struggle with literacy. The kids love it!

GLD8-Global Learn Day 21 Novemeber 2004
This event can be found at www.talkingcommunities.com
It is a 24 hour, nonstop event, beginning in the South Pacific at 00:001 GMT (1pm NZ time)
There will be two keynote speakers, followed by a 2.5hr section in the South Pacific,a roundtable on the topic:
Latin,English,Suess and Geek(explanation on the website)
Join in and be part of this exciting event where educational issues are discussed by a group of people, who are meeting around a virtual table. It promises to be fun.
The purpose of this comment is twofold -
First, to congratulate and thank Annette Stock for a superb performance during Global Learn Day 8. She lead a fine, fine panel about the complexities of using novel tools, including rap music, to enhance the learning experience.
And second, to confirm that Annette will hold a Conference on October 9, 2005 with the Theme - Edutainment and Literacy. While the centerpiece of that Conference will be how the use of rap music has helped challenged learners to read better, and be well worth every single moment for those in (virtual) attendance, I also know from close personal observation that she will bring to the panel others who are doing VERY novel stuff to improve literacy.
My hope is that this blog will be a lighting rod for comments of a kind that will lead to a Pinnacle Conference - held in New Zealand, viewable from around the world, to take place on the day the United Nations has declared Discovery Day.
That's also the day the Franklin Institute holds Global Learn Day - where the spotlight will shine on Pinnacle Conferences from around the world.

Thank you John for your comments.I am preparing already and will be calling for papers in this exciting arena of using rap as a tool to encourage struggling readers.October 9th seems a long way off but I know the year will roll along very quickly.
2005 is shaping up to be an exciting year as schools begin next week.
Educators will see in the Gazette reference to my new website and the training courses offered in Term One.There is much interest already.
I look forward to working with teachers and parents this year and continuing to develop new ideas and strategies to best help those students(pre and school aged) who have language difficulties which becomes their archille's heel with literacy development. These students challenge educators skills to deal with in the learning environment.
